Redevelopment scheme for 443-449 Holloway Road

Amelie Trepass of yourshout.org contacted us with the following:

You are warmly invited to view a proposed redevelopment scheme for 443-449 Holloway Road. The proposals involve the refurbishment of the National Youth Theatre (NYT) Rehearsal Rooms, restoring the historic frontage, and redeveloping the industrial site behind with new homes, cafes and public open space and pedestrian links through to Tufnell Park Road.

This represents the final phase of redevelopments around the site which have already seen the refurbishment of the terrace at 429-431 Holloway Road for Family Mosaic and the approval of a mixed housing development on the former council office site on Tufnell Park Road.

We will be holding a public exhibition of the proposals on Wednesday 17 July on site at 449 Holloway Road (through the arch) from 1pm to 8pm.  We very much hope you and your colleagues may have time to pop in, meet the team, visit the site and see the plans in context. Continue reading

Tufnell Park Playing Fields pitch renovation works

The pitch renovation works at Tufnell Park Playing Fields will be starting on Monday 20 May.

The football pitches will be closed off until January 2014

We had intended to re-open the pitches in September, however have now agreed to keep them closed for the rest of 2013 in order to give the grass the best chance to establish and provide a sustainably maintainable playing surface in the longer term. Teams have been informed and advised that there is some spare capacity for bookings at Market Road in the meantime. There is a possibility that we will also need to close the pitch for one more week next spring in order to install sand grooves if weather prevents us from doing this during the autumn.

Some of the potholes have deepened since the work was originally planned and we have therefore decided to import an extra 240 tonnes of topsoil to provide a much smoother playing surface. We still won’t have a fully even, graded, professional standard surface, but it will be a vast improvement on the current condition of the pitch.

Neither the buildings or the main gate on Campdale Road will be accessible to the public whilst the works are in the most active phase. The Park Keeper will therefore not be able to take last minute tennis bookings and the public will not be able to access the toilets. However, tennis courts will still be bookable online and park users will be directed to the toilets at Foxham Gardens and Whittington Park. The playground will remain available during park opening hours. We can review this at the end of June when the majority of the works have been carried out. The attached pdf shows the current fencing plan.

These works will repair damage and improve drainage. The results will be a smoother playing surface that can be sustainably maintained and more flexibility in bookings. The main park entrance will not always be open. Please use the Foxham Road and Huddlestone Road gates. The playground will stay open. The Park Keeper cannot take tennis bookings. Tennis can be booked online through:

aquaterra.org/tufnell-park-playing-fields/tennis-courts

Toilets are available for children at Foxham Gardens and for adults and children at Whittington Park.
