Julie received an email from Tessa Wire describing an assault in Fairmead Road:
Yesterday morning (7th Nov) at 9.26am my neighbour on Fairmead Road answered his door to a white man dressed in a red jacket like a postman, who said he had a parcel for him. He was punched in the face and strangled but was saved when his partner came down the stairs and kicked the attacker, who then ran off. The attacker had an accomplice who was wearing a hi-vis jacket and what looks like a backpack, who was on lookout. They both ran away together down Highwood Road.
Did you see anyone hanging about before the attack (they came from Highwood Road direction, along Fairmead Road going towards Holloway Road) or running away afterwards, back the way they came. They could have gone along Mercers Road but we don’t know which direction, they may have been on foot or could have got into a car or be on bikes.
It seems they targeted the house (they went straight to it), possibly because the door is off to the side and tucked away a bit. They may also have tried the day before (6th Nov) at around 4.30pm, the partner didn’t answer a very insistent doorbell (as he does shift work and was taking a nap).
My neighbour is fine but battered and bruised and very shaken up. They have lived here for 11 years.
I have attached photos from our CCTV, unfortunately you can’t see their faces but you get the idea. The attackers dropped a cap and a watch in the affray so the Police have lots of forensic evidence, including finger prints.
If you have any information, please let me know or call the police:
The best way to pass on information to the police is to call 101
The policeman dealing with it is Tim LIVERMORE PC 472NI
The crime reference number is 2724666/13
Hopefully they won’t be coming round this area again, but it is a good reminder to take extra precautions when answering the door – check ID through a peephole, use a safety chain, ask who the parcel is for before you open the door etc. My kids always open the door to strangers, however many times I tell them not to – but we’re going to be a lot stricter about it now.
Hope you can help. Please pass this on to anyone else local who you think might be able to help, it would be good if we could catch these violent criminals.
